The Rocky Mountain Chapter BMW CCA is pleased to invite you to attend our 2008 Fall Performance Driving School at Pueblo Motorsports Park, sponsored by Winslow BMW. Pueblo Motorsports Park is an excellent track for teaching. It is safe and demanding, yet fun and visible from the grandstand.

Our purpose is to give you the opportunity to drive your car at speed and to experience more of the potential of the unique combination of car and driver. Our High Performance Driving Schools are real schools for anyone 18 or over with a valid driver’s license. Students will alternate between classroom sessions and time on the track with an instructor.

The individualized instruction is a key to this program that has been developed over decades, and compares very favorably with commercial schools costing many times more. Our experienced instructors have come from racing, autocrossing and BMW CCA schools. They can help you develop your potential. Safety, learning and fun are our priorities — in that order, safety first. And you will have FUN!

On Saturday, Oct 4th, we will have a dinner buffet for driving school participants, instructors and workers, as well as all other chapter members.  It will be held at the track, after the Saturday driving school ends. The buffet cost is $15 per person and reservations will be done online, separately from driving school registration.

Mark Winey wrote a great article about his first driving school experience that you can read here.  Also, watch a 6 minute introductory video showing what a day at our driving schools involves.  (.wmv format, lo-res 15MB, hi-res 40MB)

PLEASE TAKE NOTE

Mandatory Vehicle Inspection

A technical inspection is required of all cars, and must be completed prior to the school. This is to check the condition of your vehicle, especially the parts that will be critical for an event like this. Tech inspection forms can be downloaded from the download page. Most safety equipment will be checked: tires, brakes, brake fluid, battery hold-downs, seat belts and more. If there is any doubt about the condition of your equipment, have it replaced. New tires are not required or necessarily recommended. The inspection can be completed by your mechanic (expect a charge) or there will be FREE technical inspections at the following times and locations. Be sure to bring your helmet to the inspection, as it will also be checked. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF! Be sure to give yourself time in case something is found that must be fixed.

While there will be mostly BMWs at the track, other makes are welcome. If you’re considering something other than a coupe or sedan, please call the Chief Safety Steward. The following are not permitted at the Driving School: Convertibles without rollbars, cars with removable tops (some targas ok), trucks, pickups, vans and SUVs other than the BMW X5, X3, X6 and Porsche Cayenne. Contact the Chief of Safety for specific car eligibility.

Pueblo Motorsports Park

Pueblo Motorsports Park is west of Pueblo, Colorado, just south of US 50. Follow the Pueblo Motorsports Park link for driving directions and other track information. There will be air and water at the track. A food concession will be available with such things as coffee, rolls, juice, and breakfast burritos for breakfast; hamburgers, hotdogs and pop for lunch.

Lodging

Hotels nearest the track are located just off of I-25 along Hwy 50. We have contacted Ramada Inn (formerly Hampton Inn) Pueblo at 4703 N. Freeway, Pueblo, Colorado for a BMW Club discount.  For reservations call 1-719-544-4700 and mention BMW Car Club for your discount.  A simple continental breakfast is included. The Clarion Hotel and Conf Center(719-543-8050)  has a special rate for any PMP participants ($49)

Early Check in

On Friday evening, there will be early check in for students at the Ramada hotel. This avoids long lines and delays at the track, so it is good to check in at the hotel the night before your school.

Cost for Driving School

BMW CCA Members: $175.00 per driver per day
Non-member: Above plus $45.00 additional per driver to purchase a 1 year BMW CCA Membership

You must be a BMW CCA member to attend this event. The non-member additional fee purchases a one year national BMW CCA membership and includes a $5 handling fee. You can also join the BMW Car Club of America by calling 800-878-9292 (during east coast business hours), using a VISA or MasterCard. You can also join via the national web site at http://www.bmwcca.org/join. By joining directly, a second person in the same household can become an associate member for only $5 ($45 for both) and then both can register as club members for the school.

Fall Driving school Buffet dinner.

After the Driving School is over Saturday, Oct 4th, we may be having a Dinner Buffet at the track. This is still being planned and details to follow.

Registration Details

1-2 weeks prior to the school, students will be sent an email confirming your registration, car number and run group. Maps, schedules, tech. Inspection forms and other details are available for download from this web site. Cancellations received by Sep 19th will be refunded $150 per driver per day VIA CHECK. There is NO refund for cancellations after that date. To cancel, login, click "My Events", click "change" then click the "Cancel Me" link. When you cancel, email the registrar, Leslie Jenkins, at dsinfo@rmcbmwcca.org.  We reserve the right to refuse entry and participation to anyone for any reason. Please see the FAQ page (Frequently Asked Questions) if you have questions or contact one of the staff members listed below.

Volunteers at the Track

An event like this takes a lot of volunteer effort to put on. If you, members of your family, neighbors, co-workers or friends would be interested in volunteering, please send an Email message to dsinfo@rmcbmwcca.org. We need corner workers, pit & grid, runners, gate workers and more. Driving school students are particularly encouraged to volunteer on a day they are not in school. It provides a very different perspective and really completes the experience.

School Schedule

The Schedule for Saturday will have the traditional run groups and timing. Sunday will be similar to Saturday's schedule but will mix A & B groups together. C & D groups will also be run together. A final schedule is still being developed, but it will be finalized soon and will be posted.  More....
